Moya Financial Continues to Promote Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in Our Communities

Dear Members,

Moya Financial has and always will stand for creating an environment that puts people first. That philosophy is the bedrock on which our credit union, our communities, and our country are built.

As recent events unfortunately reveal, Canadians sometimes fall short of our country’s ideals, and too many of our fellow citizens cannot feel safe because they live with racism and injustice.

On behalf of Moya Financial, I would like to express my outrage at the killing of four members of a Muslim family in London, Ontario, on Sunday, June 6th, while they were out for a walk – leaving a nine-year-old child orphaned and in hospital. It is horrifying and heartbreaking. We pray for the victims’ families, our Muslim Moya members, the Muslim community in London, and those elsewhere in Ontario and across Canada.

Several disturbing, high-profile incidents in the past weeks have exposed in a cruel way how we live in a world where fear, uncertainty, and discrimination continue to impact the lives of people every day. We are devastated by news of the recent discovery of undocumented burials of Indigenous children on the grounds of a residential school in Kamloops, BC, and we are deeply troubled by the rise of anti-Black, anti-Asian, anti-Semitic, homophobic, and Islamophobic incidents.

These are challenging times for us as individuals and communities. We all need to do our part to fight racism, discrimination, and injustice – we can’t afford any more lives being lost senselessly, any more children growing up deprived of their opportunities. We must acknowledge that this is an ongoing problem – we must strive to do better every day.

At Moya, we encourage respect for all and for diversity in race, ethnicity, nationality, faith, and gender. We believe our different backgrounds and experiences make us who we are and make us strong as a community and as a nation. We continue to listen and to learn how to create equality for all as we endeavour to improve inclusiveness and understanding of unconscious bias. We will continue to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion in our communities, our hiring and business practices, and our charitable giving.

Please join me in doing the necessary hard work to eradicate racism, hate, and violence in our communities wherever we find it.
